Wilma Jean (McDonell) Zier, 86, of Choteau, Mt passed away December 25, 2020 at Skyline Lodge in Choteau, MT. Visitation will be Friday January 15, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home and a Graveside Service will take place January 16, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Choteau Cemetery in Choteau, MT with burial to follow. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic please wear a mask or face covering and follow social distancing protocols.
Wilma was born September 28, 1934 to Gus and Effie (Peterson) McDonell in Choteau, Montana. She was one of 13 children. Wilma grew up on the family homestead west of Choteau and moved into Choteau with the family in 1950. On November 17, 1953 Wilma wed the love of her life Herman Zier in Great Falls, MT. The couple were blessed with 4 children; Calvin, Alvin, Bettina and Ricky.
Wilma lived on the family farm from 1953 until 2017 when she moved to the Skyline Lodge in Choteau. Wilma and Herman loved to travel and managed to make it to all contiguous 48 states and Alaska. She spent many hours crocheting, quilting, and embroidering. She enjoyed gardening and caring for the barn cats. Wilma and Herman were faithful fans of the Choteau High Basketball team and attended as many games as possible.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Herman, parents Gus and Effie McDonell, her brothers Pat, Jerry, Gus, and Tom McDonell and sisters Alice Petri, Marguerite Johnson, and Ethel.
Wilma is survived by her children Calvin Zier (Billings, MT), Alvin Zier (Shirley) (Casper, WY), Bettina Benson (South Bend, IN), and Ricky Zier (Ann) (Mooresville, IN) as well as 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, her sisters Elsie Agee (Fairfield, MT), Helen Rencurel (Chino Valley, AZ), Irene Torgerson (Columbia Falls, MT), Jody Gebhart (Bynum, MT) and Doris Shumaker (Bynum, MT).
