Susan Deann Brown



Susan Deann Brown passed away on Monday July 19th, 2021 at Teton Peaks Assisted Living Facility in Choteau, Montana. She had been living with a terminal condition and was under the guidance of hospice at the time of her passing. She was 60 years old. Cremation has taken place under the care of Gorder-Jensen Funeral home. Her wish was to not have a formal funeral, instead she wanted at some point in the future for a celebration that included "some good eats and Peace in the Valley played". Her ashes will be spread in various places throughout Montana as was her request.



Born on November 8th, 1960 in Kalispell, Montana to Byron and Lorraine Brown (Carr). Susan was the fourth of six siblings along with Joe, Kevin, Sharrol, Wayne and Sheldon. Susan was preceded in death by both of her parents and brothers Kevin and Sheldon.



Susan has three children. Dana, Jeremy (Alicia) and Lacee. She has 8 grandchildren: Jason, Hailie and Mya from Dana. Dylan, Angela, Autumn and Ellie from Jeremy, and Kayson from Lacee. She has one great granddaughter from Hailie (Eevee).



It would be a disservice to her to not also mention her "boys" here, Prince and Batman, who she called "Batters", her "boys" are her two cats that she cared for and loved dearly the last several years.



Susan spent most of her life in different parts of Montana and was proud of her home state. She, along with her parents, her children, and at times all her siblings, spent a considerable amount of time living in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She had short stints in several other places throughout the country, she was an adventurous woman with a wandering and beautiful spirit.



Susan was never married...well except that one time that she called her "8 weeks of wedded bliss!" Susan was certainly unique, and this is just one example of thousands. She was always willing to be herself and follow her heart, regardless of what others told her. She loved her children deeply and unconditionally. Her greatest treasures at the time of her passing were the letters, cards, pictures, trinkets and other gifts she had meticulously saved over the years. She didn't have much else, but no matter where she went, those went with her.



Susan was a passionate soul. Everything she did she believed in wholeheartedly. Whether it was babysitting kids in the community, helping folks clean their houses, taking care of animals, gardening or standing up for any of the many causes she believed in, she did it with earnestness and a zeal unmatched.



She moved to Choteau in 2013. She quickly settled into the community, she wasted no time finding the thrift store and the closest place to buy a Pepsi. She could often be seen walking or biking around town, greeting everyone with a warm smile and taking the time to listen when she asked how they were doing. She was one of those people that every community has that was just always there, and our community was fortunate to have had her in her final years. She had a way of gravitating toward the people who needed a helping hand and a sympathetic ear. Her empathy was immeasurable.



Gardening was perhaps her most enjoyable hobby the last several years of her life, and although she didn't have a plot of her own, she always found a way to plant her seeds, whether it be in buckets at the Skyline, or in a friend's yard or in the Choteau Community Garden, she was always in the dirt.



Her love for the Earth was abundant, she found comfort and peace just being outside, laying on the ground, and when she was younger and healthier, hiking through the forests of Northern Montana and the Black Hills in South Dakota.



The family asks in lieu of flowers and cards, please consider a donation to an Animal shelter of your choice or to your local community garden or senior center. And the next time you are planting a seed of any kind throw and extra one in the ground in her honor. Susan's final wish was for everyone she loves and throughout the world to "Always stay humble and kind."
