Steven Rose

April 5, 1954 — November 12, 2025

Steven "Steve" Lee Rose, 71, of Pendroy, Montana, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and community. Steve was born on April 5, 1954, in Conrad, Montana, to Edmund Rose and Doris Beatrice Dea, and was raised in the close-knit community of Pendroy. He attended Pendroy Elementry and Choteau High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1972. Steve earned an Associate Degree in Mechanics in 1974 from Northern Montana College, a skillset that served him well throughout his life on the farm.

During his high school years, Steve made his mark both on and off the field. He was crowned Homecoming King in 1972 and proudly held the record for the most tackles on the Choteau High School football team that year. It was also in those halls that he met the love of his life, Corrine Ann Baker, beginning a partnership built on devotion, teamwork, and nearly five decades of commitment.

Steve and Corrine were married on June 19, 1976, in Choteau. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage. They made their home in rural Pendroy, where Steve dedicated his life to farming, ranching, service, and raising a family he adored.

A lifelong farmer, Steve worked the land, raising dry land wheat, barley and alfalfa/grass. He also ran a diverse ranch, tending sheep, cattle and turkey. His work extended far beyond his own operation-Steve was deeply committed to public service. Over the years he served Teton County in numerous roles, including Rural Fire Chief, Dispatcher, Reserve Officer, and in Disaster and Emergency Services. He also worked for Pondera County as a Dispatcher and Jailer. In Pendroy, he volunteered as a firefighter and was involved with the Quick Response Team.

In the 1990s, Steve served on the Ski Patrol and ran the ski rental shop at Teton Pass/Rocky Mountain High. His early work history included time at Choteau Ford in 1973 and working for Don Dodge in Dupuyer.

Steve had a creative, playful side that his family treasures-he was known for crafting wooden rubber-band guns by hand for his kids and their cousins. He enjoyed collecting guns and coins, reloading ammunition, and sharing his knowledge of mechanics, farming, and Montana history. Steve was known for his quick wit and humor-his daily "Grandpa jokes" were eagerly awaited by neighbors and grandchildren alike.

Above all, Steve was a family man. He was his children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter, attending their activities, celebrating their achievements, and cheering them on through every milestone. He loved his animals, was proud of his roots, and was devoted to supporting his community in any way he could.

Steve is survived by his wife, Corrine Rose; his daughter Leah Rose, and her daughter Vivienne Helem; his son Anthony Joseph Rose and his wife Beverly, and their children Ethan and Carter Rose. Sister and Brother in-laws are Brian and Beth Beerman, Lyle and Dawn Baker with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Doris; his sister Myrtle Rose; and his sister Eleanor Peters and her husband Donald Peters.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 21st at 5:00 PM at the Choteau Pavilion, with dinner to follow. The Service will be streaming on the Pendroy Volunteer Fire Facebook Page. All who knew and loved Steve are welcome to attend and share in honoring a life lived with integrity, humor, and unwavering dedication to family and community.

Memorial suggestions are the Pendroy Volunteer Fire Department & Quick Response Unit or the Pendroy Community Church.
