Robert Nelson

d. February 12, 2020

Robert Ray (Bob) Nelson was born in Elwood Nebraska in 1936 to Ray and Dorothy Nelson. They later moved to Fairfield MT where he attended Greenfield and Fairfield Schools. Bob was always involved in music from an early age. His biggest thrill was to march in the Rose Parade in Portland Oregon during his high school years.

During his senior year he joined the Air National Guard and was there 7 years. He also worked for Sun River Electric for 13 years. In 1962 he married Betty Jo Hovden and have been together for 58 years. They had 3 children Daniel (Tracy), Timothy and Kory (Justin Van Hauen). They have 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was a Cub Scout Leader. In 1968 Bob took his family to Washington State where he worked for Weyerhauser Timber Co. In May of 1970 the 3 Rivers Telephone Manager called and wanted him to come to work for them.

We moved back to Montana, living in Conrad for 22 years. Bob retired in 1998 and they enjoyed going south to Texas and Arizona in the winter. During all his years he was involved in various bands starting with his family's band "The Mavericks", and many others. Where ever we lived we always went to church and sang in the choir together. Bob held many postitions at the Conrad Presbyterian Church and the United Church of Christ in Fairfield. He was custodian for both churches for many years.

Bob was a special person to many people. There wasn't anything he couldn't repair. He would help anyone who needed help. He loved everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife, his brothers Ronald and Randy (Sue), his three children and their spouses, all grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob succumbed to Alzheimer's on December 29th with his family by his side. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
