Richard Neal

Richard Bruce Neal, known to some as "Dick" or "RB"; passed away of natural causes, August 24, 2022 at Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Great Falls, MT. He was 83 years old.



Funeral services for Richard will be held, Saturday; September 3, 2022 at 1 o'clock pm at the Augusta Community Church with a viewing held at 12:30 pm prior to services. Burial will follow with full military honors in Augusta Cemetery with a reception following back at the Augusta Community Church . Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.



Richard was born July 26, 1939 in Choteau, MT to Robert Bruce and Lima Anne (Johnson) Neal. He attended and graduated from Augusta High School with the class of 1958.



Following high school, Richard was inducted into the United Stated Army in Butte, MT. He was sent on numerous overseas assignments including Korea, Italy and Germany. He was a cannon/missile senior sergeant. On March 31, 1983 he retired from the military in Fort Hood, Texas as a 1st Sergeant after 20 years of service. Richard was a decorated military veteran. He was awarded with such honors as the national service defense medal, the armed forces expeditionary medal (Korea), the army service ribbon, army commendation medal (with 2 oak leaf clusters), the good conduct medal with silver (2 loops) and an overseas ribbon - among others. After his retirement from the Army, he worked for the US postal service for a time and as care taker of a ranch near Choteau.



Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and going into the mountains. He enjoyed processing meat and even made smoked meats. You were a lucky individual to have been able to try his jerky and sausage. Above all he loves his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed a good conversation and a good joke.



Richard is survived by his children Donald Jay Neal of Anchorage, AK; Robert James Neal of Vaughn, MT; Carl Wane Neal of Great Falls, MT; Sabine Naomi Neal of Long Island, NY and Richard Bruce Neal II of Long Island, NY. His sisters Bonnie Jo Dale of Fairfield, MT and Linda Burson. His brothers Lloyd Neal of Augusta, MT; Dale Neal of Fairfield, MT; Kent Neal and Charles Neal as well as 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.



Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lima and Robert Neal; his son Bryan Charles Neal; brothers John, Dan and Bob Neal; sisters, Billy Pond, Jan White, Peggy Simpson, Lavonne Neal, Lorrene Neal, Marian Neal and Caroline Neal.



IN lieu of flowers donations in Richard's name can be made to the Fairfield VFW, Choteau American Legion or United Service Organizations.
