Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, July 20th at Sunset Hills Cemetery for Nyla Elaine Thorn, age 71, longtime Fairfield resident who died Sunday, July 13th at her home near Fairfield. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home of Choteau.
Nyla was born May 31, 1943 in Chester, Montana the daughter of Art and Alice (Reid) Thielman. She graduated from Great Falls High School and then received her Bachelor of Science Degree through the Utah State University in 1966. She married Kenneth D. Thorn on September 19, 1966 in Coeur d'Alene, ID. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2012. She and her husband moved to Terry, MT for one year and then they moved to Waldport, OR for 5 years before returning to Fairfield to farm and raise cattle.
Nyla loved art work such as drawing, sketching and painting. She also enjoyed making mosaic artwork. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Nyla also served as a school buss driver from 1995-96 until her retirement in 2004.
She is survived by her children: Kimberly Thorn of Fairfield, MT, John Thorn of Frenchtown, M and Ty Thorn of Las Vegas, NV; a sister: Billie Dailey of Great Falls and 2 grandchildren: Cassidy and Chelsey Thorn, both from Frenchtown, MT.
Nyla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister: Kay Sleater.
