Madelon Nelsen

March 12, 1932 — April 8, 2020

Madelon Alida Nelsen, 88, passed away on April 8, 2020, in a memory care facility in Helena, Montana. Madelon was born on March 12, 1932, to Roy and Frances Maurer in Great Falls. Madelon was the second of four sisters who grew up on an irrigated farm on the Fairfield bench just east of Fairfield.

Madelon attended a nearby elementary school and graduated from Fairfield High School. On March 17, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Elroy Nelsen. Once Elroy had finished his military service, the couple built a home and established their lifelong residency in Fairfield. Madelon worked for many years as an office manager for the Fairfield Feed and Seed Company before leaving to assist in operating the Nelsen family farm, west of Fairfield.

Madelon was always a caring, happy and generous person. She cared for her aging mother in Fairfield for many years and was a very special and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. Madelon was an accomplished piano player and was her church's pianist for many years. She enjoyed planting and tending her beautiful flower gardens and landscaping around their home. She was an excellent hostess and cook, and hosted many family gatherings at their home. Madelon and her husband loved to travel. Madelon accompanied Elroy on many of his wildlife photography trips, as well as vacation trips with Madelon's younger sister Betty and husband Bill. For the last several years, Madelon was under the wonderful care of her sister Betty in Camano Island, WA.

Survivors include her sister Betty Tift, brother-in-law George McRae, along with nephews Paul Cummins, and Scott (Kristy) McRae, and nieces Diana (Chris) Marble, and Loreen (Mark) Skinner, and grand-nieces and grand-nephew.

Madelon is proceeded in death by husband: Elroy Nelsen, parents: Roy and Frances Maurer, sisters: Mariel Cummins, Neva McRae, brother-in-law: Bill Tift, aunt and uncle: Alberta and Wallace Klockler.

Cremation has taken place and due to the pandemic no formal funeral will be held, but a graveside internment ceremony is planned alongside her husband Elroy's grave at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Fairfield, MT, at 11 am on Saturday, July 18, 2020; followed by a luncheon buffet at the Cozy Corner. All family and friends are welcome. Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
