Lois Gustafson

Lois Mae Gustafson was born to Hie and Olive Duits on Oct. 6, 1925 in Choteau, Montana. She grew up on a ranch west of Choteau and graduated from Teton County High School in 1943. Wanting to help the War effort, she moved to Seattle and worked for the Army. She met and later married Louie Clough, a sailor from Pasadena, Texas, on Oct. 27, 1943. They lived in Washington, D.C. where Louie was stationed in 1944 and 1945. They then returned to Choteau, where they raised their three children. Lois Mae was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She was Nobel Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and President of the American Legion Auxiliary. They moved to Great Falls in 1966 where Louie was working for the Montana Air National Guard. She became active with the Sunrise Presbyterian Church, again teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. In November of 1968, while square dancing, Louie suffered a fatal heart attack. She then returned to work at the U.S. District Court Clerk's Office in Great Falls. She married William T. Gustafson on September 17, 1977, and they remained in Great Falls, visiting Bill's ranch property near Power whenever they could with the grandkids. Bill passed away on July 4, 2005. Her grandchildren were her love and inspiration, and she dedicated her life around their activities. At the age of 80, she fulfilled a bucket list goal of hiking to Our Lake with her son and grandchildren. She was a staunch Democrat and was not about to check out till she voted for Joe Biden. She will miss that inauguration. She passed away after 95 years on January 15th at Peace Hospice. She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Ralph Dello Iacona) Rohloff, Bob (Denise) Clough, and Rich (Mary Sexton) Clough, step children Gale (Susan) Gustafson and Lynn Borozan, eight grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and her many friends. At her request, there will be no funeral service. Her ashes will be buried with Louie in the Choteau Cemetery at a private service this summer.
