Kenneth Thorn

June 11, 1938 — November 6, 2012

At his request, no services will be held for Kenneth D. Thorn, age 74 of Fairfield, MT who died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at his home in Fairfield from natural causes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home of Choteau.



Kenneth was born June 11, 1938 in Choteau, MT the son of James Thorn Jr. and Helen Woodrow Thorn. As a young boy, he lived with his parents on Sunny Slope and in Havre, where he graduated from high school. He went on to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Education at Northern Montana College. He was united in marriage to Nyla Thielman on Sept. 19, 1966 in Coeur d'Alene, ID. He taught History and Industrial Arts in Terry, MT for one year and then moved to Oregon where he taught for 5 years in Waldport, OR until moving back to Fairfield in 1974 to farm, raise cattle and worked as bus mechanic for 15 years and bus driver for 26 years for the Fairfield School.



Kenneth served in the US Army post-Korean War and enjoyed making inlaid wooden boxes, painting, reading, drawing, golfing, hunting and fishing and walking his dog.



He is survived by his wife, Nyla Thorn of the family home, children: Kimberly Thorn of Fairfield, MT, Ty Thorn of Las Vegas, NV and John Thorn of Frenchtown, MT; 2 brothers: Walt Thorn of Glasgow, MT and Pat Thorn of Shelby; 2 sisters: Kitty Nelson of Seeley Lake, MT and Deb Gabriel of Great Falls, MT and 2 grandchildren: Cassidy and Chelsey Thorn, both of Frenchtown, MT.
