John Daniel

November 29, 1942 — May 9, 2021

John Loyd Daniel, 78, of Choteau passed away on Mother's Day, May 9th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at Teton Peak Assisted Living in Choteau.

Cremation had taken place under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home and no services will be held at this time. Private services and scattering of John's remains will take place at a later date in San Angelo, Texas.

John was born on November 29, 1942, in Tom Green, Texas, the oldest of six children, to Loyd Andrew Daniel (22) and Adeline Elizabeth (Young) Daniel (24). Loyd was one of three brothers in the Daniel family who married three sisters from the Young family. Because of these marriages, John was the oldest male cousin to be born on both sides of the double and triple cousins from the Young/Daniel clan.

John graduated from Hardtner High School in Hardtner, Kansas with the class of 1960. He went on to further his education, getting a degree in Auto Mechanics and specializing in transmissions from Okmulgee Tech, (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in 1967, and later acquired additional certifications in Diesel Mechanics and ThermaKing refrigeration units from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma.

John was a Diesel Specialist working for ThermaKing and Bama Pies for many years. His profession gave him the opportunity to live in many states and travel to many communities. In 2005 he retired and moved from Oklahoma to Missoula, MT to be closer to his two daughters. Eventually moving to Polson, and then Choteau, Montana to live with his daughter Cheryl.

John enjoyed reading, (knowledge was his super power), and he loved anything to do with history, science or math but especially history. He loved to spend time with family, and was very happy to be able to attend the 40th Young at Hart family reunion in 2015. When available, he loved watching college football, golf and old westerns.

John is survived by his daughters Christine Howard of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Cheryl Gertge of Choteau, Montana. Five siblings, Joseph Daniel of Iowa; Sylvia Brockus of Oklahoma; Sharon Daniel of Wisconsin; Shirley Daniel of Hawaii; and Jeffery Daniel of Oklahoma. As well as five grandchildren, Alahna, Sadie, Christian, Alex and Jessica and three great-grandchildren, Elise, Zayn and Westyn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name are suggested to Bright Eyes Pet & Rehab, in Choteau MT, or Rio Grande Baptist Church Reformer's Unanimous Recovery Ministry, in Albuquerque, NM.
