Irene F. Mills

Irene F. Mills, 86, of Choteau, Montana, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the Beehive Home in Cut Bank Mt.

Born on May 12, 1939, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Irene was the daughter of Ormsley Lince and Florence Graeber. She was raised in Mott, North Dakota, and later Augusta, Montana, where she graduated from high school. She lost her father at the young age of 13, a loss that shaped her strength and compassion.

While in high school, Irene met the love of her life, Ray Mills. They were married on June 22, 1958, and made their first home in Augusta. In 1964, they moved just 25 miles away to Choteau, where they built a life together for over 60 years.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Ray raised two children, Carrie (Mills) Hardin and Russell Mills. Irene was a loving homemaker and also worked as a school aide at Choteau Elementary, where her kindness and warmth touched many young lives.

A woman of many talents, Irene found joy in flowers, gardening, and sewing. Her green thumb and creative spirit were evident in everything she did. She also adored her two loyal dogs, Cooper and Faith, who were constant companions.

Irene’s legacy lives on through her children and her three beloved grandchildren, who will always cherish her gentle guidance, unwavering love, and quiet strength.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband Ray Mills, and her parents Ormsley Lince and Florence (Graeber) Lince.

Irene is survived by her children, Russell Mills, Billi Jo (spouse), Carrie (Mills) Hardin, Jim Hardin (spouse); and grandsons Kyle Hodgskiss, Dyllon Mills, Cole Mills.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Irene will be buried next to Ray in the Choteau Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
