Gordon Mills

Long time Choteau resident, Gordon "Ray" Raymond Mills, passed away June 18, 2021 while being out in nature riding his favorite horse, he was 84 years old.
Ray was born May 29, 1937 in Great Falls, Montana to Gordon and Gwen (Olsen) Mills, he was one of three boys. He attended and graduated from Augusta High School and went on to further his education by attending school in Dillion and Missoula.
Ray married high school sweetheart Irene Lince on June 22, 1958 in Augusta. Soon after the couple was blessed with two children. Ray worked nine summer seasons with the Forest Service and was full time in 1964 after flooding destroyed the trail system. Hi career as a government packer lasted for 45 years. He retired in 2000 but continued to enjoy packing and guiding for many more years.
Civic duty was also important to Ray. He was an active member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge and was the Hunter Safety instructor in Choteau for 45+ years. Ray loved sports of all kinds. In his early years he enjoyed coaching babe ruth and little league baseball. He was an avid hunter, fisher and gun collector.
Ray is survived by his wife Irene Mills of the family home, his son Russell (Billijo) Mills of Anchorage, AK; daughter Carrie (Jim) Hardin of Choteau, MT; his brother Ron Mills of Augusta, MT; grandchildren Dyllon Mills of Pearl Harbor, HI; Cole Mills of Anchorage, AK and Kyle Hodgskiss of Billings, MT as well as extended family, numerous friends, co-workers and his beloved animals.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary Mills and a nephew Doug Mills.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11 am at the Choteau United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Choteau Cemetery.
