Genevieve “Jenny” Dickson Thompson, 96, passed on June 5, 2023 at Benefis Teton Medical Center’s Long-Term Care. At Jenny’s request a family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Jenny was born in Great Falls on May 25, 1927 to Scottish parents, Joseph C. and Janet “Jessie” (Walker) Dickson. As a 1st generation American Citizen, Jenny was able to see at the age of 10 her parents receive their citizenship. After graduating from Great Falls High class of 46’, Jenny was employed with J.C. Penny’s. A blind date hayride would lead Jenny to a 63-year love affair with her husband Bruce Thompson, marrying on April 9, 1950. A few years later, in 1955, the couple would move to Geraldine to purchase and run Thompson’s General Store. During, this time they would build a large loving family starting with their three daughters and ending with nine great grandchildren. After Bruce’s passing in 2014, Jenny would move to Choteau in 2015 to be closer to family. Sadly, Jenny broke her hip in February of 2020 and in the mist of the Covid Pandemic had to be taken to Long Term Care at TMC. The isolation from her family was a struggle.
Jenny enjoyed many things like bowling and sewing, but had a real passion for her flower beds. Her daughter made sure to fill the flower beds with Irises, Jenny’s favorite flower, when she moved to Choteau. Jenny loved to bake and made sure to always have cookies for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a proud member of the Geraldine American Legion Auxiliary.
Jenny is survived by daughters, Connie (Sherwin) Smith, Choteau, Caro (Steve) Knecht, Helena and Janice Thompson, Great Falls; grandchildren, Danielle (Jay) Mooney, Brent (Trisha) Smith, Sara (Beau) Decker and Kurt (Amy) Knecht; great-grandchildren, Kori and Cyan Mooney, McKenzie and Keaghan Smith, Gunnar, Brody and Kennedy Decker and Mia and Anna Knecht; brothers-in-law, Les Thompson and David Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jenny's family would like to thank Benefis TMC Long Term Care for the years of compassionate care.
