Ellen Ferris

January 29, 1925 — October 3, 2019

Longtime Choteau resident Ellen Marie Ferris, 94, died of natural causes October 3, 2019 at Benefis Teton Medical Center in Choteau, Montana.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home and a Vigil Service for Marie will be held at 7:00 pm. Tuesday, October 8th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Choteau. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Wednesday, October 9th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with a burial at Choteau Cemetery and Luncheon following services.

Marie was born in Fort Benton on January 29, 1925 to Ellen Bridget McKeon Stack and Frederick Michael Stack of Big Sandy. She joined four older brothers. She was raised in Big Sandy and Power. She went to school in Power and St. Thomas High School in Great Falls. She graduated from Power High School in 1943. She then went on to work in Choteau at the Teton County Courthouse.

Marie married James R. Ferris on January 11, 1944 in Choteau where they lived on the family farm and raised their family. Marie was active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, served on the Choteau Library Board and was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She dedicated her life to raising her family of six children. Marie was proud of her Irish heritage and was able to travel to Ireland two times with children. She loved to read and play cards and enjoyed playing golf and Keno with her friends. Her favorite activity was the family get-togethers where she could visit with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found great joy and took pride in her whole family.

Marie was preceded in death by her brothers Chet Stack, Gerald Stack, Bertrand Stack, Harold Stack, husband Jim Ferris and daughter Colleen Ferris.

Marie is survived by her sons Michael (Donna) of Columbus, GA, Richard (Barbara) of Aurora, CO, Douglas (Karen) of Choteau. Daughters Linda (Dan) O'Neil of Billings, MT, Jeanine (Barb) Ferris of Marietta, GA; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren plus many nephews and nieces.

Memorials in Marie's name are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
