Anthony Machado

April 17, 1946 — February 16, 2023

Tony Machado

A jack of all trades and a master of feedlots and artificial insemination, Anthony H. (Tony) Machado, 76, of Choteau, died on Feb. 16, 2023. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m.

Tony came into this world on April 17, 1946 in San Jose, California where he was raised by Albert and Johanna Machado. He graduated from San Jose High School then went on to earn a Bachelor's in Animal Husbandry from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1969. Upon graduation the rodeo trail lead him to Montana where he began working for the KRM Ranch in Malta taking care of yearlings over the vast prairie. While living on the Hi-Line he also drove a bull-wagon and put in some time at the Glasgow Sales Yards. Tony then drifted south to the Musselshell Valley where he worked for a few different ranches and even put his keen skills to work being a surveyor. It was during his time in the Musselshell Valley that he found his true passion and his true love. While working at Faunco Feeders he found his true passion which was all things feedlot, and while showing cattle he found his true love, Marlene. Tony and Marlene met at the Denver National Stockshow. Tony was showing cattle for Vescovi Polled Herefords and Marlene was working a booth for North Platte Saddlery. The results of the stockshow included Marlene selling Tony a pair of boots and the two winning each other's hearts. They were married shortly after in Roundup. The next stop in their life's travels was to Choteau with Tony taking a job with North Montana Feeders. It was here where Tony and Marlene raised their two children, Brandy and Tanner, with a lot of love, laughter and hard work. After the children went to college, Tony played his jacks and applied his skills at feedlots in Colorado including the Gilcrest Feedlot owned by ConAgra then Five Rivers, Magnum Feedyard, and Larson Farms. After Tony retired three times, Tony and Marlene decided to come back to Choteau.

Tony's hobbies included work, team roping, car racing, showing cattle, supporting his children's sports and 4-H activities, traveling and spending time with Marlene. He was a jokester (some were terrible, unique jokes which made them great), however, he took his poker seriously. He was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, and friend who was adventurous and brought out the good in people.

Tony is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marlene Machado (Choteau); daughter Brandy (Bob) Edmonds (Kersey, Colorado); son Tanner Machado (Kingsville, Texas); granddaughters Kaycee and Koree Edmonds (Kersey, Colorado).

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Johanna Machado, and sisters Marian Wisbar, Adelene Lofano, Henrietta Culver, and Alberta Williams.

Memorials to Teton County Livestock Committee and/or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
